Hydra Studio

Hydra Blog

Not to beat a dead horse into the ground, but as you all know Hydra Studio has moved to a new location. We’ve switched our digs from the extravagant (used lightly) Lake Mary, FL to the heart of downtown Orlando. Now I’d like to point out how efficient we are in the fact that we all meticulously planned out our lives by living only 10 minutes or less from where we work.

However! All of us now have the unfortunate task of entering the world of the “morning commute machine.” We wake up twice as early, sit in our cars twice as long, and have needed to strengthen our patience ten-fold. For those out there who aren’t versed in the arts of cartography or google maps, we’ll just inform you that it’s bumper to bumper, 30 minutes +, into work every day.

Now I’m sure there’s plenty of people out there who think this isn’t that bad, but when you’re talking to a group of impatient dudes who usually dedicate 12 hours of their day to work, it becomes a hassle. So how do we compete with this looming force that wrecks us each and every morning?

Well I can’t speak for my team, but I personally have implemented ways into how I can reinforce my commute into something more positive. It’s all about patience, and then focusing your patience into methods of being more productive.

For instance, I now wake up an hour earlier to begin my day. What this means is I now have plenty of time to shower (which everyone appreciates), I have time for breakfast, and I now that I have time to commute. I gauge my morning by trying to get to work a half hour in advance. That means I’m in my office, prepped and ready, way before anyone else is. By doing this I allow myself some padding in case some catastrophic event happens on the interstate and I’m stuck in gridlock. At this point I really have no excuse to show up to work late, ever. The boss really appreciates that one.

Also, the drive time gives me a chance at listening to my beloved music collection, and allowing myself some time to expose myself to new tunes as well. On top of all that, and most importantly, I can now expose myself to more negative ions provided by our wonderful sun, and enjoy the day longer!

It’s comforting to know that you can turn negatives into positives, and it ultimately leads to a more productive and stress-free day. You just have to assess your situation and plan accordingly. This methodology can cascade into other aspects of your job and your life, and hopefully will keep that Orlando road rage at bay.
