Getting image colors to look exactly the same on all platforms when publishing on a Mac is a mystical art that I’ve never completely understood, until I read Chris MacAskill’s article on the topic.
Basically, your mac is calibrated out of the box to a high-end publishing standard of 1.8 gamma setting. This is great if you’re a high-end publisher, but PC’s have a gamma setting of 2.2. This is where the land of the unknown begins. Between saving ICC profiles, different monitor settings and browser rendering differences; everything runs amuck.
So if you just want to see stuff like everyone else sees stuff, all you need to do is change your monitor’s color profile to IEC61966-2.1 and you’ll be good to go. Photoshop installs this profile for you, but if you don’t have it, you can get it here. and be sure to check out the article, it’s an interesting read.
